How To Choose Best Colors For Skin Tone?
Many of the cosmetics are attractively packaged and come in great colours and sizes to catch the eye of the customers. But before putting on it, its worth to think if it’s suits them or not. When foundations, eye shadows, and lipsticks don’t match the skin, they give an awful look. Here is a guide on buying the right cosmetic to match the skin tone.
The basic rule in buying cosmetic is that, it should match the skin tone. Generally skin tones are classified as cool and warm. They can be further categorized to dark, olive or yellow (most Asian and Latin countries people are yellow), rosy, tanned or fair.
Finding skin tone
- Holding a piece of white paper against the face and identifying the main color that’s visible
- Wear a white shirt followed by cream or off-white. Cool skin tone would look brighter in white whereas warm skin would be enhanced by cream color.
- Wear silver jewelry followed by gold. Gold would look brighter on warm skin while silver would sound better on cool skin tone.
With the knowledge of skin tone, foundations, eye make up and lip stick selection could be easily made.
Foundation
Foundation is the base for all make up and must match the skin tone well. Foundations come in golden or blue-toned base and its variants. Blue or pink undertones would go well with cool skin while yellow base is perfect for warm skin. The foundation should be tried on the face and viewed in sunlight to check if it blends with the skin and gives a natural look. Dark skin tones look best in plumbs if they are cooler and auburns or rich bronzes if they are warmer. Copper, almond, and warm brown shades look good for olive to yellow skin tones. Peach, coral, apricot, and orange suit tanned skin. The rule is bolder colours would suit darker skin and subtle colors would go with fair skin for a natural glow.
Powder
Those using foundation for enhancing colour, should wear a translucent powder to set the make up and control excess shine. Loose powder should be chosen over pressed powder. The powder should be spread evenly using blush brush. Those not using foundation should use tinted complexion powder for even skin tone. For the color, the same rule as in foundation applies.
Lipstick
The tester version of the lipstick should be tried on white paper to check the color before purchase. Brown, warm red or pale colors go with yellow skin, shades of red and pink go with rosy tint skin tone. Rose, magenta and shades of purple go well with dark skin and variants of pink gel with tanned skin. For the very light skin tone, pink, shades of red or orange and light purple would be good options. Using a matching lip liner would help to enhance the lips.
Eye Shadow
For warm skin, different tones of bronze, cream, light brown, red/pink, soft green, and coral would be ideal. For cool skin, white, silver, pale blue, purple, dark green, and gray would be perfect. If unable to decide on any color, holding it against the face would give an idea.
