Home Remedies For Stretched Ear Infection
Stretching of the earlobes means making the pierced holes larger in size. This is done by different people with different objects in mind. However stretching means infection, it is rare that one may stretch the ear without contacting infection. Infection may start due to the process being done using dirty hands or may also be contacted due to trying to change the gauge quickly and applying excessive force.
Infection may also be caused if stretching is started shortly after piercing of the ear. Doctors suggest that there should be a time gap of more than two months between piercing and starting of stretching. If the infection is once contacted antibiotic treatment will be required for healing process to complete. Unless there is some bigger complication treatment can be done at home. Serious cases should be referred to doctor.
Before starting stretching care should be taken of the following:
- If you are doing stretching on your own wash your hands properly and for about fifteen seconds, preferably using some medicated soap.
- The expander already inserted in the ear should be removed. Before trying to remove use some lubricating cream so that the extraction is easy.
- Boil a cup of water and let it cool. Once cooled, add a pinch of Epsom or sea salt in the water. Dip your ears in the salt water for about fifteen twenty minutes. This can be repeated two to three times daily. After the ears have been properly soaked dry them and apply some antibiotic ointment on the ear.
- Before reinserting the expander clean it properly by dipping it in salt solution. Better to sterilise it properly by boiling.
- Do not insert oversize expander. If the infection started when expander of a new size was inserted, reduce the size. Do not again increase the size till the ear has properly healed.
- A mixture of turmeric and butter oil or ghee can be applied on the ear at the time of inserting the expander. Turmeric powder has excellent antibiotic and healing properties. Ghee will keep the ear soft thus preventing infection.
