Home Remedies For Dandruff
Dandruff is a very common condition found in a vast majority of people. Actually it is a skin condition. Human skin is continuously shedding dead cells. When due to any reason there is excessive shedding of dead skin cells from scalp, this condition is called dandruff. Medical research has not been able to point out the exact reason for this problem. The internal causes may be due to hormonal changes, poor hygiene, and improper or imbalanced diet. In addition to this dandruff is said to be caused by excessive use of hair gel, oil or sprays. Blow drying of hair and excessive heat stress due to any reason may cause dandruff.
In majority of cases dandruff can be controlled by simple home remedies and taking care of the scalp.
Diet plays an important role. Intake of vitamin B complex is found to be very helpful. Similarly natural dose of sulphur in food will help which is available in plenty in onion, cabbage and eggs. Garlic has been found to be helpful in reducing dandruff. However, rich, fried food and chocolates should be avoided.
In addition to food, herbal and natural remedies are helpful to control dandruff. Tea tree oil or a mixture of sesame seed oil and ginger juice rubbed on scalp is very helpful. One should also try rinsing of hair with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar mixed water. Hair should not be left too dry. At least once in a week oil should be rubbed properly in hair, and should be allowed to remain overnight. A few drops of lemon juice can be added to the oil. Application of plain yogurt on scalp, and leaving it for about 30 minutes before shampoo of hair has been found to be helpful.
Proper circulation of blood to all parts of body including head is a must for proper health. Daily exercise will help out from this problem. To improve blood circulation to upper part, head stand or lying down with legs lifted or resting upon higher place, should be tried. Also allow proper ventilation in the room where one sleeps.
A word of caution is- always use mild soaps or shampoos to wash your head, prefer use of herbal products with least chemicals. A mixture of dried gooseberry and soap nut can be used. Soak overnight and boil rapidly for fifteen minutes. Strain and massage into scalp. Wash off with warm water. This will gently cleanse and give natural vitamin C protection. Before buying these products, study the ingredients and follow instructions before applying shampoo etc. If natural remedies are not helpful consult a dermatologist who can prescribe a short treatment, but side by side remember to follow proper hygiene.
