As the women are moving out more and more for work they are becoming more conscious of appearance. Good appearance improves confidence and personality. Accordingly removing of unwanted hair from different body parts is becoming a necessity in women folk. There are a number of ways of removal of unwanted hair. These include chemical free methods like waxing, tweezing, threading, shaving and electrolysis. Another method is use of chemicals for removal of hair. A large number of hair removing creams and lotions are available.
Cream hair removers are chemical based creams used for removal of hair. The ingredients of these are generally formulations of sodium or calcium with alkaline base. Study has found that these chemicals are not suitable for all type of skins. They react on sensitive skin causing rashes and swelling. Sometimes the color of skin also changes resulting in patches or darkening of skin. Considering this, it is essential that these creams or lotions should be applied with due care and after proper testing.
Testing should be done on a small patch only. The trial can be done on inner side of fore-arm. For trial, the cream should be applied on a small patch for the time recommended by the manufacturer. If there is no side effect like rash or burning then this should be applied on a larger part. In case of side effect, effected part should be washed with clean running water and then some antiseptic cream should be applied.
Side Effects: These creams being alkaline in nature dissolves the hair or protein structure of the hair resulting in breaking the hair at the root. Once hair is dissolved or broken it can be easily wiped off. These are generally more effective on soft hair. Ordinary creams are not very effective on thick hair. However special creams are available in market for thicker hair, these are made of stronger chemicals so should be applied with caution.
The result of these creams last for only a few days may be one week or so, thereafter hair again starts growing as the roots are intact. Another drawback of these creams is unpleasant odor. Being a chemical composition, they have a peculiar odor. They work on the principal of chemical reaction and that emits further odor when applied. This is difficult for some women to tolerate.
In spite all these drawbacks, some women find it convenient as it can be easily used at home without much expertise and time required to remove hair is also not much. One should go for this only if there is no side effect.
