Hair Removal Techniques For Women
According to a study, majority of the women remove hair considering them undesirable. According to them, hair found on any part of the body other than head and eyes are unwanted and need to be removed. Even eyebrows are plucked to remove hair considered unwanted and only hair that give a proper shape are kept. The extent of hair that grows on different parts of the body depends upon hereditary factors and also level of testosterone hormones.
While a number of techniques are used to remove unwanted hair, adoption of one depends upon the choice of each individual. It should be remembered that there is no permanent method of removal of hair. In this context permanent may be considered as long term. Described hereunder are some of the methods employed by women for hair removal.
Shaving is the most common method used by women. It is less cumbersome as compared to the other methods. However there is a possibility of getting cuts on the skin of the individual. The shave may be uneven at different places and hair on the curves may be left out. As the hair follicles remain, the growth is fast and hair starts to reappear in a few days.
Waxing is another method of hair removing. The process involves using hot or cold wax. The wax is evenly spread on the part of the body from which the hair is to be removed. A cotton cloth is pressed on the wax. It is pulled with a jerk and the hairs are pulled out. The disadvantages are that it is painful and scarring. The advantage is that this is slightly long term method and needs to be repeated only after a month or so. In place of wax, a mixture of thick sugar syrup and lemon juice can be used. This may be slightly less irritating to the skin as compared to wax.
Threading is another method of removal of hair and involves pulling out hair along with follicles. This is generally employed for removal of hair from the eyebrows. The process is also long term and needs to be repeated after a month or so.
Use of depilatory or hair removing creams is another method. Depilatory creams contain alkaline material which dissolves the hair when applied on the hairy portion of body. Only certified products should be used and instructions printed on packaging should be followed.
Electrolysis is a slow process for long term removal of hair. This is effective in case of the people with thick hair. Electrolysis needs to be done by an expert. As such it is essential to check the credentials of the expert before getting electrolysis done.
Laser is the modern process of removal of hair. This is quite costly and needs a few sittings. The process has long term effect.
