Eye Makeup Problems For Contact Lens Wearers

contact-lens-problems-wile-eye-makeupPeople who wear contact lenses ought to be very careful about their make up products. A wrong eye pencil or a flake of mascara falling into the eyes could puff it up and make it difficult to fit lenses. Here are few tips to minimize such problems:

Wear lenses before or after make up: Those who cannot see without corrective help should wear lenses before makeup. But those who can manage without lenses for some time should opt to wear the make up first and then the lenses. If the lenses were worn beforehand, chances are there that a little of make up may spill over the lens and the eyes and lens may have to be cleaned.

Using Face powder: It’s best to avoid using loose powder on the face as they tend to fall in to the eyes and may irritate. Instead pressed powder could be used on certain areas like nose, forehead and chin. However areas around the eyes should be avoided. These powders cling on to the skin and don’t fall easily. Other option is to use a combination of foundation and powder in one product. These are moist while applying and then dry up and give a powdery finish.  Some brands of such products give a mast like effect but  the better quality ones do a clean job solve the problem of powder particles falling in the eyes.

Two major points to be borne in mind are consistency and ingredients in the make up. Recommended ones for the lens wearer are water proof eyeliners and mascara. If a non-water proof stuff were used, then with the water eyes due to lens and the wetting eye drop would smudge the eye makeup and it would require to be done again. The water proof ones can handle these issues.

All lens wears should look for the phrases ‘hypo-allergenic’ and ‘safe for use by contact lens wearers’ on the label. This would keep them away from allergic reaction.

Lens wears should not use mascaras that a meant to build up thickness and length to the eye lashes with silicone and fibers. If these were to fall into the eye accidentally then it would cause intense pain and irritation.

Using hair products while wearing contact lenses

Hair products and styling aids can also cause irritation to the eyes. If the hair is likely to hang around the eyes, then a gel-wax or styling sprays. The hair spray should be done in a room which could left shut for a while so that the cloud of spray wouldn’t irritate the eyes. For the same reason, the eyes should be shut while the spray is used and as along as the cloud is around. This would prevent the hair spray from settling down on the eyes.

Its true that with lens wearing make up is little complicated. But by choosing the right kind of products, the irritation can be minimized and at the same time enjoy the benefits of make up.
