Choose Sunscreen For Your Skin Type
People who are exposed to direct sunlight often have skin burns on the body. The extent of effect sun rays have on different parts of body differ. The parts of body like face, neck or hands have delicate skin and they get affected the most by the ultraviolet rays present in sun light. There is a misconception in the mind of some people that exposure to direct sunlight only can cause skin burns. Ultraviolet rays which are present even in diffused sun light can also darken the skin. Even light present under water can affect your skin.
Sunlight dries out moisture from the skin pores. To prevent your skin from damage by sunlight it is necessary to keep it moist. Whenever you are exposed to sunlight it is essential to wash the face and exposed parts with clean water using some mild soap. After washing apply moisturiser or lotion containing vitamin E. The home remedy after exposure to hot sunny weather is to apply yogurt. Your skin will cool and the moisture that has evaporated will be back.
Once you know about the extent of damage that can be caused by sunlight it becomes essential to choose the right type of sunscreen lotion that will suit you. Lotions with different strength or SPF are available in the market. Different coloured skins are differently affected by ultra violet rays of sun. Those with white skin are affected the most. Being more prone to skin burns, it is essential for the people with white skin to choose the lotion with 30 SPF. If your work requires you to remain for a long period in direct sun then you should opt for 50 SPF lotions.
People with wheatish skin are slightly less affected. Sunscreen with SPF 15 may be suitable for them. However for those with direct exposure for a long time SPF 30 will provide total protection. Dark or black skinned people also require sunscreen lotion. For them lotion with SPF 8 may be sufficient. However, for those exposed to sunlight for long hours SPF 30 lotion should be preferred.
To provide maximum security to your skin it s essential to apply sunscreen at least four times a day. It should be applied evenly on the face, neck and hands. If you are likely to spend a long time outside in direct sunlight, it will be advisable to keep a tube of sunscreen lotion in your purse and apply it after every few hours.
Ensure that the lotion you use is free from paba and has not crossed the expiry date.
