These days even boys are getting their ears pierced as wearing a single earring has become a fashion statement. Piercing of the ear involves making a hole in the lower soft part of the ear. This is normally done with the help of piercing gun and this process takes hardly a few minutes.
It should be remembered that this hole is just like a wound and healing process is critical. During the healing process it is essential to take proper care of the ear otherwise the part may get infected and long treatment may become inevitable. The other problem that may arise is that during the healing process if the studs are not inserted in the holes they may close requiring the whole process to be repeated.
The following points should be taken caring for newly pierced ears healing:
- Apply antiseptic or anti bacterial cream regularly and at the intervals as suggested. This way you will prevent any infection spreading in the ear. Ensure to wash your hands before touching the ears. The tube or the bottle containing the medicine should be firmly closed after use.
- Do not expose the ears to dirt or dust. If you work at a place where you get exposed to dust keep the ears properly covered.
- While taking bath ensure that least possible water falls on the ears. However it may not be possible to keep them fully dry. After taking bath clean the ears with soft cloth and see that water has been wiped off.
- If there are children around or you pick up some toddler ensure to keep the ears covered. Be careful while combing your hair not to disturb the studs. If some injury is caused to the ear while playing and blood or liquid drop oozes out immediately consult your doctor.
- To keep the holes open it is necessary to insert studs in the pierced ears. This may be a painful process. You will need to rotate the studs clockwise or anti clockwise direction to ensure forward or backward movement. It is better if a silver wire is inserted immediately after piercing. Its ends be bent and screwed to avoid falling. This can be moved easily and will not allow clogging. Once the wound is fully healed the wire can be removed.
- Some traditional ladies apply a mixture of warm oil and turmeric is used for healing quickly. Turmeric is a natural antibiotic and oil keeps the skin soft for least discomfort.
